Last month Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Build 19619 to Windows Insiders. The build included fixes to prepare for the May 2020 Update but it also added the ability to control media playback from within the Your Phone app.

After testing the feature with Windows Insiders for about a month, Microsoft is now rolling it out to all the Windows 10 users (via Techdows). The feature will require Windows 10 October October 2018 Update or later and Android 7.0+ smartphone. Currently, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, YouTube Music, Xiami Music, and Google Podcast are supported. The key features include:

  • See and interact with the audio apps playing from your smartphone.

  • Audio title track details are displayed and remain in sync with what’s playing on your phone.

  • Control your tracks from your PC, including play, pause, previous/next.

  • Switch between multiple sources using the dropdown in the audio player.

To enable it, you will need to follow the steps below:

  • Pair your Android smartphone with Your Phone app using Your Phone Companion app
  • Open Your Phone on Windows 10 and click on ‘Settings’
  • Enable “Show audio currently playing from my phone” under Personalization settings.

Once done, you can head to your Android smartphone and use any of the supported music apps to play the music.

Do note that you will require Your Phone version 1.20051.93.0 and Your Phone Companion version 1.20051.113.0 for the feature to work. Both the apps were updated last night to enable the feature so make sure you have installed the latest updates. Lastly, you will need to ensure that you have allowed audio apps to show notifications on the Android phone. To enable notifications, go to Android Settings > Notifications > select the audio app > turn Notifications on.
