The Samsung Unpacked event is set to kick off later today and we’re expecting to see the new Galaxy Z Fold 2. While we are excited about the full reveal, there’s been a lot of leaks and speculation surrounding the product already.
Samsung has been on quite a wild foldable journey in the short time since they arrived on the market. The Galaxy Fold had plenty of troubles and was even re-released with a more reliable build and the Galaxy Z Flip was an imperfect proposition that suggested Samsung may be getting on the right track.
With the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung seems to be using everything it’s learned from its foldable foray thus far to create, what might be, their first truly viable foldable phone. Let’s dive into all the rumours, leaks and theories that have emerged around Samsung’s upcoming folding device.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 design
Prominent leaker Evan Blass may have stolen Samsung’s thunder on the day of its big Unpacked event – revealing videos showcasing many of the expected new products, including the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
We’d already seen many images showcasing this very design, with Samsung opting for a much larger screen on the front this time out, but this is the first time we’ve seen the phone in action.
The size and shape of the hardware don’t look all that different from the original Galaxy Fold however we can but hope Samsung has continued to refine the reliability of its line of foldables.
Along with the new front-facing screen, the camera module looks to have got a revamp – looking very similar to leaked images of the new Note 20 series.
Blass also showed off two colours for the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 – Mystic Bronze and Mystic Gray:

Galaxy Z Fold 2 release date
The phone is due to be released “soon”, a report from Sammobile suggested, but we have no concrete dates and at this stage information is thin on the ground. It could come alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series, which is all set to be released on August 5.
Korean publication ‘The Bell’ previously discovered that the new device was codenamed ‘Bloom’. They believe the original codename signals a ‘blooming’ of Samsung’s presence in the foldables market and initially suggested that the foldable could be released in April. Now, coronavirus and on-going limitations on the industry mean that the release will be much later.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 specs
As to quite how impressive the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s specs will be, we’re pretty much left in the dark at this stage. Samsung will be forced to make some tricky decisions, balancing customer priorities between the latest internal hardware and a lower price.
Of course, we expect the foldable to arrive packing a pretty impressive specs sheet and 5G capabilities too.
One leak (below) suggested the phone will release with two colour options, a lower price and 256GB of storage.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 price
The original Galaxy Fold came with a huge £1900 price tag. We’re expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to be a little bit cheaper – if only because folding screen technology has had more of an airing in the market at this point.
Hopefully the company will strike a healthy balance between tech upgrading and a more accessible price-point.
